GAMSAT Preparation
GAMSAT Preparation: Strategic Tips and Techniques
GAMSAT is demanding. GAMSAT is monstrous. GAMSAT is… well… GAMSAT! A one of its kind exam that cares little for learning by rote and challenges you to reason out every question before you derive its answer. Seems tough? You need worry no more for we have devised the perfect strategies that will help you tame the beast that GAMSAT is. So let’s come straight to the point:
-
Fall in love with GAMSAT. Yes. Eat, drink and sleep GAMSAT. Internalise GAMSAT. Get under its skin.
-
Know yourself, analyse your strengths and weaknesses. Allocate your time and resources accordingly. Remember that just as you need to leverage your strengths, you also need to brace your weaknesses.
-
Think GAMSAT like the GAMSAT paper setter. The moment you are able to step into the paper-setter’s shoes and decode his intent you will learn how to play around with concepts, you will learn how concepts translate into questions, and, most importantly, you will learn to play around with questions.
-
Have faith in yourself. The human mind is capable of limitless possibilities. Ask yourself, how tough can a computer marked test get afterall? Say to yourself, yes I can.
-
Mere words of course will never do. Act. Train your mind, your body and your brain to take up the challenge. Practise rigorously. The more number of GAMSAT style sample tests you will take, the better.
-
Pay attention to all the 3 sections. One look at the scoring process will tell you that all the sections are equally important. So science may be your favourite, but you just can’t afford to not practise the essays. alternatively, you may love the Humanities reasoning, but section 3 is indispensible.
-
It is a must that you practise taking full length GAMSAT tests under Test conditions, replete with OMR sheets and all. Recreate the real test like situation as much as possible. Picture yourself in the real hall, surrounded by scores of candidates, some nervous, some over-confident, but none being able to budge you from your balanced poise.
-
Visit the forums but in moderation. Remember that you are there for exchange of information and experiences, not for social networking. Also, learn to take things with a pinch of salt. And yes, do avoid the panic-creators.
-
Form a study group if possible. But be careful in choosing your study-mates. Like-mindedness and seriousness of purpose are the two things you should be looking for.
-
Take care of yourself. Eat healthy, exercise in moderation and give yourself a few moments of relaxation too. Practise meditation for a few minutes everyday. Remember that you have to peak on the GAMSAT day and thus pace yourself intelligently, working towards that sole goal: SUCCESS.
