Eligibility- Are you Eligible to sit GAMSAT?

ACER is pretty flexible about the eligibilty to appear in GAMSAT. Applicants must have completed or be in their final year of Bachelor degree. The applicant can be from any stream, science or non-science. ACER has specifically mentioned that no special preference will be given to a candidate coming from any specific background.
Candidates with Australian degrees must have acquired it from Commonwealth accredited institutions. Candidates who have a higher degree without having completing their Bachelor degree have to consult respective universities before applying.

Eligibility for Foreign/International Students

Foreign/International Students can take either GAMSAT or MCAT to enrol themselves in Graduate Entry Level Programmes in Medicine and Pharmacy in different Australian/UK/Ireland Universities. The foreign students who wish to sit for GAMSAT have to register with ACER by the specified deadline in January.

The candidates who wish to sit for MCAT have to register with the American Association of Medical Colleges. Like GAMSAT, MCAT scores are valid for two years. For more details on MCAT, log onto the website www.aamc.org/mcat.

Unlike Australian candidates, the foreign students cannot calculate their Grade Point Average (GPA) using the conversion tables provided by Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). However, the international candidates have to submit their official academic transcripts along with their application forms. If the academic transcripts are in foreign language then they must be accompanied by a certified English translation.

The international candidate must provide sufficient details of the grading system used so that his level of performance in the Bachelor degree can be assessed by the Australian committees in a fair manner.

Another aspect in which the international applicants position differs from that of a Australian candidate is that international applicants are

permitted to nominate only two medical school preferences.

The number of places available in the different medical schools for 2010 is:

20 places at ANU

10 places at Deakin

19 places at Flinders

10 places at Monash

100 places at Queensland

55 places at Sydney

12 places at Wollongong
